In car accidents newton's 1st law of Objects in motion stay in motion unless affected by an outside force.

So when a car is in an accident it has a sudden decrease in the velocity. Which then causes your body to try and keep with its motion of lets say 60mph but the car is going 0mph after the accident. Until something stops you that is why you wear a seat belt. Seat belt is the outside force that slows you down, and vechiles are built with an cushion area on the bumpers so that you stop at a slower rate(impulse). The longer it takes you to stop will prevent injuries!

hope this helped

In the first 10th of a second in the collision the vehicle and everything inside are going at a different?

In the first 10th of a second during a collision, the vehicle experiences a rapid deceleration, while everything inside, including passengers and unsecured objects, continues to move at the vehicle's pre-collision speed. This difference in motion creates a significant risk for injury, as inertia causes these items to collide with the interior of the vehicle. Proper safety measures, like seatbelts and airbags, are crucial to mitigate these forces and protect occupants during such events.
