Studies show that clinicians are able to detect trichomonas under the microscope in only two of three confirmed cases. You should return for a revisit if you are having symptoms including odor, discharge, painful urination, bleeding after sex, or a rash in the vaginal area. There are swabs that can detect trichomoniasis, although this test can be expensive.

Were you treated for bacterial vaginosis at the visit? If not, it is unlikely that you had trichomoniasis. Were you tested for gonorrhea and chlamydia? Chlamydia can cause a yellow discharge, although it doesn't look or smell like trichomoniasis. If a gonorrhea and chlamydia test wasn't done, return to the office and ask for one.

If the tests are clear, there is no need for concern about the color of your vaginal discharge in the absence of other symptoms or positive tests.
