Because they're a non-native species ! As usual - humans were responsible for releasing these very large snakes - into an alien environment. The snakes simply adapted to prey on any suitably-sized animals in the area.... whether that's a wild rabbit - or domestic dog ! It's NOT the snakes fault they were released... HUMANS set them free when they became too big to handle !
