Unfortunately lbs. is not a standard unit - different countries use pounds of different sizes. This is one of the reasons the kg. should be used.

From the Wikipedia: "... the most common today being the international avoirdupois pound of exactly 0.45359237 kilogram". I believe this is also the pound used in the United States; so just divide the number of kg. by this number. Round this to something like 0.454, to memorize it easily; it ain't worth the trouble to memorize all the digits.
