A pair of Ovaries. In pelvic cavity, there are two ovaries placed, besides uterus. In intrauterine life there are millions of ova in the ovaries. At birth, the number is about 1 million in each ovary. At puberty the number is about 100,000 in each ovary. Out of witch only about 300 to 400 will be liberated. After menarche, there may be few unovulatotry cycles but then each month you have one ovum liberated from either of the ovaries on fourteenth day of menses, if the cycle is of 28 days. (It's actually a day fourteen days before expected menses.) Each month Grafian follicle matures, under the influence of Follicle stimulating hormone from Pituitary gland and on the day of ovulation, there is surge of Leutenizing hormone and follicle ruptures, liberating the ovum in peritoneal cavity, witch is taken up by Fimbriated end of Fallopian tube. If get fertilized, it will start dividing by Mitosis and usually on eighth day after fertilization, it will be embedded in the body of uterus and pregnancy continues. After rupture of follicle, a white body called as Corpus lute-um secretes the hormone called Progesterone, witch bring about secretory changes in in inner wall of uterus, making it ready for pregnancy. (Earlier Grafian follicle secrete the hormone Estrogen.)if not fertilized, menses will be there.
