If you mean what I think, it is a tube that will connect to the air filter housing coming from the engine. It helps remove any combustable air build up form inside the engine. Simple terms of course.
Breather paper is typically located on the exterior side of the sheathing underneath the exterior cladding of a wall. It acts as a permeable membrane to allow moisture vapor to escape while preventing liquid water from entering the wall assembly.
The PCV or positive crankcase ventlation valve does as it is named. It will remove harmful gases from the engine. Also, you can find breather caps on the valve covers, this also helps to remove and fumes from the crankcase or engine base.

The oil is coming from the breather tube that comes from the valve cover. There is supposed to be a filter that will block this, but alas, they sometimes do not work to well. One way to stop this, if it is a big problem would be to put a little batch of steel wool in the breather line at the air box side. This might help. Or, replace the original line and filter. As long as there is not too much oil getting in there, the car will still run fine.

Heat will expand the fluids, that's why there is a certain fill point. The breather tube is to let air out from the expansion of fluid, and to let air back in when fluid cools. Check your oil, if it looks the same you may have a blown head gasket. If your oil looks okay you may just have had some water get in it from somewhere else. I found that i had milky residue in my breather and the problem ended up being the carb was forcing air back down the breather tube. When air is forced into a small space it compresses and moisturises. The solution was to take off the breather tube and put a cap or separate breather filter on it.
