There is GPS for surveyors and mappers. Probably the best names are Trimble and Sokkia . . . maybe Leica, as well.

There is also GPS for navigation in a vehicle like a car or a boat. There is no 'best', but Garmin Nuvi is one of the most purchased ones.

There is also GPS for geocaching. Garmin, Magellan, Lowrance, and other are all good brands. I have a little Magellan Explorer 200 handheld that I really like because of the ease of use and the respectable accuracy.
