This is pure speculation but here goes: A curved edge has superior cutting power over a straight edge when slashing. That's why the samurai sword cuts so well. However the samurai sword sacrifices a whole edge, some handling (due to it being asymmetrical) and some stabbing ability to achieve this. Leaf shaped blades offer a curved edge on both sides, while still offering symmetry along the long axis, which should improve handling and speed, and a good stabbing tip, aligned with the handle and the long axis. Also, Greek metallurgy was not as advanced as in the Medieval period. It's possible the broader blade shape was less prone to breaking in the field.

its called a Kopis.
The earliest Greek swords were made of bronze. In the time that Homer wrote about, Homeric swords were more advanced. One type was called chalcos and was made of copper. There were also the Xiphos, Phasganon, and Aor. These were made of steel that sometimes had gold and silver accents. The xiphos has a double edge. There was also a kopis which was a machete like blade.
it varied but the one thats most often depicted is the Kopis.
they usually has to wear spartan hat and many weapons
Alexander the Great's weapons were primarily made of bronze and iron. His soldiers used short swords called kopis, spears known as sarissas, and shields made from wood reinforced with metal. Additionally, they utilized various siege weapons constructed from wood and metal for attacking fortified positions. The technology of metallurgy during his time allowed for the production of effective and durable weaponry.
It is a version of the greek kopis used by the Spartans, similar to the one used in Frank Miller's 300. It is also a more subtle reference to his being a Marine.
most weapons were made of bronze or copper up until 100 BCE when they started to make weapons out of iron. The ancient primary Greek weapons like The Dory was made up of either iron or bronze. The Spartan swords were made up of iron blade, the Kopis were also made up of iron and the shields were made out of wood with an outer layer of bronze.Ancient greek weapons were made of copper or bronze. Bronze is an alloy of copper and tin. The very first weapon in Greece was copper then bronze. Later (c.1000BC) iron weapons came into use. Iron tools also allowed the Greeks to make sophisticated armour and shields from bronze.
Made
"Made of" and "Made from" can mean the same thing. "That can is made from aluminum." "That can is made of aluminum." However, they can't be used the same in every situation. You can say: "That house is made of wood and made from workers." But you can't say: "That house is made of workers and made from wood."
