White dwarf. High mass stars become neutron stars or black holes.
mass
You will know what a star becomes when it dies based off of its mass. If the mass of the star is less than, around, or slightly greater than the sun's mass, it will become a white dwarf. If the mass of the star is a few solar masses, a supernova will happen and a neutron star will be created. If the mass of the star is many times that of the sun, it will explode in a giant supernova called a hypernova and create a black hole.
The life span of a star is determined by its mass. More massive stars burn through their fuel faster and have shorter life spans, while less massive stars have longer life spans. The life span of a star can be estimated using the mass-luminosity relation and the star's initial mass.
The Sun is a medium mass star in main sequence.

A newly formed star is called a protostar. This is the early stage of a star's life cycle when it is still accumulating mass from its surrounding gas and dust. Once a protostar reaches a critical mass and temperature, nuclear fusion begins and it becomes a fully-fledged star.

I believe if its over a certain mass it becomes 2 forms of super giant, then usually becomes supernova and cause a black hole. If under a certain mass it may expand slightly but then become a black or white dwarf star.
its mass
The mass of a star affects the lifespan of the star. The less the mass, the longer life span of the star. More massive stars burn up their fuel more quickly than the smaller stars. As the massive stars begin to burn the fuel and become smaller, the life span increases.
