An Ocean and Mount Everest.

The only light below the photic zone of the ocean, about 150-400 m, comes from underwater volcanoes and bioluminescence. No photosynthesis can take place.

Mountain peaks in many places in the world have conditions that can't support vegetation; the elevation at which this occurs is variable dependent on year round temperature, humidity, precipitation, soil or mineral composition, and an oxygen poor atmosphere.

These areas of the oceans or mountains is sometimes called 'the dead zone'.
