A good example to illustrate the relationship between anatomy and physiology is the relationship between how a skeletal muscle is structured (anatomy) and how it works (physiology) to produce a muscle contraction. Skeletal muscles are organized into units called sarcomeres which are overlapping chains of two different proteins, actin and myosin. That in a nutshell is the microscopic anatomy of skeletal muscle.
