Radiation from the sun comes to earth in the form of ultraviolet waves. The more harmful ones are blocked by the ozone layer and the useful ones come through the atmosphere unhindered and warm the earth. This warmth then rises in the form of infrared rays. Infrared heat is trapped by greenhouse gases, so not as much heat leaves the earth as enters it.

The temperature range is so much greater mainly because of the lack of atmosphere. The Moon has no atmosphere, so the radiation from our local star, the Sun, is not filtered or diffused in any way.

Firstly what does a greenhouse do? It keeps the heat in by stopping the heat from escaping the greenhouse. Imagine the greenhouse as the earth and that the glass is the atmosphere, the atmosphere is getting clogged with all different kinds of gases which is causing the suns heat to stay trapped in Earth which is causing it to heat up. So imagine the greenhouse gases as the windows of a greenhouse which keeps the heat in.

Mostly because it has no atmosphere. When direct sulight hits the surface of the moon, nothing impedes it - and the surface gets very hot, very fast. When that side is turned away from the sun, it is facing the vacuum of space, which is near absolute zero - it gets very cold, very fast. there is no atmosphere to soften the heating, or keep the warmth in, either.
