It half of the celestial sphere, which is an imaginary sphere with the Earth at the centre, on which all objects in the sky can have their positions described by a type of latitude (declination) and a type of longitude (right-ascension). Declination goes from -90 degrees (south) to +90 degrees (north), while right ascension goes from 0 to 24 hours. They are called geocentric coordinates, and although we know the Earth is not at the centre of anything, they are useful in describing where to look for a star or to point a telescope.

The event when the sun crosses the celestial equator is known as the equinox. There are two equinoxes in a year: the vernal (spring) equinox and the autumnal equinox. During these times, day and night are approximately equal in length all over the world. The vernal equinox marks the beginning of spring in the Northern Hemisphere and fall in the Southern Hemisphere, while the autumnal equinox marks the beginning of fall in the Northern Hemisphere and spring in the Southern Hemisphere.

The Southern Hemisphere
A hemisphere refers to half of the Earth, divided along the equator into the Northern Hemisphere and the Southern Hemisphere. It can also refer to half of any spherical object or celestial body.
Cetus is located in the celestial sphere, and therefore can be seen from both the northern and southern hemispheres. However, it is more easily visible from the southern hemisphere due to its position near the celestial equator.
Ursa Minor can be seen primarily in the Northern Hemisphere. It is located close to the North Celestial Pole, so it is visible year-round in this hemisphere.
Polaris, the North Star, is located near the North Celestial Pole which is visible only from the Northern Hemisphere. In the Southern Hemisphere, there is no bright star close to the South Celestial Pole like Polaris because the South Celestial Pole does not have a similarly positioned bright star. Therefore, observers in the Southern Hemisphere cannot see Polaris due to its location in the sky.
