When the sun evaporates water from the earth's surface the water vapour rises into the air. As it rises the air becomes colder.

When the water vapour becomes cold enough it condenses (like water on the outside of a cold drink) to form liquid water again. These tiny water droplets form clouds. When enough of the droplets merge together they get too heavy to float and they fall as rain (precipitation).
