The melting of the ice caps is generally regarded as extremely bad, since it would cause an very large rise in sea level with consequent flooding of coastal regions all over the world. If I were to look on the bright side, however, I could observe that land currently covered by glaciers, in Greenland and Antarctica, will become available for human use, and wonderful new frontiers will open up, with no indigenous population to have to deal with, either. Something lost, and something gained.
