Demineralizing is a process of producing water that is entirely free of minerals or contaminants. This pure water is needed in chemical assays to determine minerals in substances for example. It will commonly be produced by first distilling the water, then passing it through an ion exchange resin. It should not be stored in common glass bottles, (which will have free sodium ions).
