Phylum is one of the ranks given to biological entities i.e life. It is one below Kingdom and one above class
For example
A Tyrannosaurus Rex is in the kingdom of Animalia, the Phylum Chordata and the class dinosauria. (Chordata includes all vertebrate life and some very closely related invertibrates)
A Triceratops is also in the kingdom Animalia, the Phylum Chordata and the class dinosauria. T-Rex and Triceratops are both dinosaurs and are closely related.
A mammal such as a kangaroo or human is in the kingdom Animalia, the Phylum Chordata but are in a different class called mammalia. We are not dinosaurs but are share common features such as a backbone.
An insect such as a cockroach are in the kingdom Animalia but the phylum is Arthopoda along with Spiders, centepedes and many other forms of invertibrate. We are more closely related to dinosaurs than house flies.
An oak tree is in the kingdom Plantae.
A group of classes make up a phylum in biology. Phylum is a higher taxonomic rank in the classification of organisms, lying below kingdom and above class. Organisms belonging to the same phylum share certain common characteristics.
Phylum Ginkgophyta
The same phylum you belong to! Chordata.
Amoeba belong to the phylum Tubulinea.
Fire Algae are in Phylum Pyrrophyta :)

The phylum Echinodermata has an internal calcareous skeleton made up of plates or ossicles. This skeleton provides support and protection for organisms in this phylum, such as sea stars and sea urchins.
Arthropods collectively make up a major taxonomic classification called a phylum. Members of the phylum (Arthropoda) are characterized by segmented bodies, an exoskeleton made from chitin, and joint appendages.
The phylum is Annelida. I believe the word comes from Latin and the Latin word means "little ring". I suppose this is referring to the small ring shapes segmented worms are made up of.
Scientific classification: Roundworms make up the phylum Nematoda.

Yes, the phylum porifera contain some of the oldest organisms because they are formed from fossilized, tiny sea organisms which were the precursors to modern life.
Arthropoda is the phylum characterized by having an exoskeleton made of chitin. This phylum includes animals such as insects, spiders, and crustaceans.
