Although I cannot verify this, I have been to Eurofresh in Wilcox ,Arizona and that is one BIG hydroponics greenhouse growing company. I was there many years ago and they had three 40 acres each, greenhouses growing tomatoes back then. I've heard they have constructed more and are growing other vegetables hydroponically. They have (or had, then) tours of this facility.

What are the issues with hydroponics?

Some common issues with hydroponics include nutrient imbalances leading to plant deficiencies, equipment malfunctions causing system failures, and susceptibility to diseases and pests in a controlled environment. Additionally, the initial setup cost can be high, and there is a learning curve to properly manage the system.

What is growing plants in just sand called?

Perhaps the thinking here is that sand has no nutritional value and the plant is going to be fed via a solution containing everything the plant could need. The idea is hydroponics, and the media is not usually sand 'cause it's just too heavy and hard to deal with. Inert material that is light and "roomy" is a better choice for hydroponics. Growing plants in liquids rather than soil is known as?

Hydroponics. It is a method of growing plants without soil, using mineral nutrient solutions in a water solvent. This technique allows for more controlled plant growth and can be a more efficient use of resources like water.

Is aeration needed in hydroponics?

Yes, aeration is important in hydroponics to deliver oxygen to the plant roots. It helps prevent root rot and promotes healthy root growth by increasing nutrient uptake efficiency. Aeration can be provided through air stones, air pumps, or other methods to maintain oxygen levels in the nutrient solution.
