The factor label method is when you use the number as well as it's units to help you convert that number into different units.
Example: Covert 1 hour into seconds
We know that there is 60 mins in 1 hour and 60 secs in 1 min
1 hr x 60min/1 hr x 60sec/1 min = 3600 sec
The hour units and minute units cancel out leaving the units in seconds.
