Longitude is measured from the Prime Meridian, in both directions ... east and west.
The farthest possible excursion away from the Prime Meridian in either direction
is half-way around the Earth ... after you've gone that far, every additional step
puts you closer to the Prime Meridian.
Halfway around the Earth in one direction is 180 degrees east. Halfway around
it in the other direction is 180 degrees west. The greatest possible longitude in
either direction is 180 degrees, and both of those are the same meridian (line).
Germany is a rather large place. The northern most point of Germany is at Latitude 54.908199, Longitude 8.651733. The southern most point is at Latitude 47.275502, Longitude 10.184326. The western most point is Latitude 51.053481, longitude 5.869446. The eastern most is Latitude 51.272226, Longitude 15.04097.
The longitudinal extent of India is 30 degrees. The sun rises in the east and sets in the west. It takes 4minutes for the sun to move across 1 longitude. Thus the eastern most point of India would be 2 hours ahead of the western most point (30X4=120 minutes) , in accordance with the local time. This difference in time might create confusion in air and rail timings and so many other things across the two states. To avoid this confusion a longitude passing through the mid point of 68 degrees 7 minutes (western most longitude) and 97 degrees 25 minutes (eastern most longitude) is taken as the standard prime meridian ofIndia. The time at the standard meridian 82 degrees 30 minutes which passes through Mirzapur in UP is taken as the standard time of India , followed all over the country.
Africa spreads across the most degrees of longitude, covering approximately 60 degrees from east to west.
Asia spans the most degrees of longitude, covering approximately 86 degrees from east to west.
The longitude of the westernmost point in Alabama is 88.4733° W. (rounded)
Believe it or not it is Alaska. Alaska is the most northern, most eastern, and most western state. Hawaii is the most southern. Alaska divides the eastern and western hemisphere at the International Dateline or End Meridian (180 degrees longitude), making it qualify for east and west. The Prime meridiam (0 degrees longitude) is located in Greenwich England.

Most Eastern - Alaska Most Western - Alaska Alaska crosses 180˚ longitude, making it a part of the Eastern Hemisphere. This action makes Alaska the most eastern state in the US by a long shot. Alaska is also obviously the most western state.
Indiana' eastern border is 84 degrees 49' W.
The eastern hemisphere begins at 0 degrees longitude, known as the Prime Meridian, and ends at 180 degrees longitude, known as the antimeridian. This encompasses most of Europe, Asia, Africa, and Australia.
The eastern hemisphere is the hemisphere that lies to the east of the Prime Meridian and ends at 180 degrees longitude while the western hemisphere lies to the west of the Prime Meridian and also ends at 180 degrees longitude. Since the Prime Meridian passes through Greenwich, UK, the vast majority of European countries lie in the eastern hemisphere. The only exceptions are Iceland, Eire, Portugal, the majority of the UK, the majority of Spain and a minority of France.
Most of South America lies between approximately 35 degrees west and 81 degrees west longitude. This range encompasses a vast majority of the continent, from the eastern coast in Brazil to the western coast in countries like Chile and Peru. The longitude range also includes a diverse array of climates and ecosystems across the continent.
By most standards, the prime meridian (which runs through Greenwich, England) as the eastern edge of the Western Hemisphere (and the western edge of the eastern hemisphere) and its longitudinal opposite at 180 degrees longitude (west or east, which runs through the Pacific Ocean) being the western edge of the western hemisphere and the eastern edge of the eastern hemisphere. The time zones known as Greenwich Mean Time and the International Date Line are sometimes alternatively used to demark the western from eastern hemispheres, but the would not be true hemispheres as those time zones are not straight longitudes.

Western Hemisphere
Africa spreads across the most degrees of longitude, covering approximately 60 degrees from east to west.
Alaska, which is also the easternmost state. The Aleutian Islands across the 180 degree longitude mark, so they are in both the eastern and western hemisphere.
