Neither is the best lubricant for hinges (actually WD40 is more of a penetrant, not a lubricant). If they're all you have use the GT85, but if you have Tri-Flow (best) or plumber's grease (second best) use it instead. Probably vegetable oil would be better than GT85 but it will turn rancid.

How do you open a jammed lock on a door knob?

Spray in dry graphite and work the key until it loosens up the lock (unless you have already sprayed in a liquid lube like WD40 which will only gum it up more) If you've already made this mistake, try spraying a little brake cleaner in the keyhole to clean off the WD40, then try the graphite WD40 is not a lubricant, WD40 was invented as a WATER DISPERSANT henc WD, 40 represents the 40th attempt. WD40.

What is used to lube lug nuts?

Since lug nuts are used to hold the wheels on your car or truck you really don't want to lube or grease them at all. If the lug posts and nuts are rusted, however, you can use a rust removal compound or some WD40 to clean off the rust. To remove the oily residue from the WD40, spray the posts and nuts with brake parts cleaner - it dries quickly and leaves no film or residue behind.

Why is WD40 bad for rusty bike chains?

WD stands for Water Displacement, so it's not really intended as a lube. It's better than nothing, but not as good as a real lubricating oil.

Can you use gasoline when lubricating a bike chain?

Definitely not. The gasoline will act as a solvent and disolve whatever lubricant may be on the chain. For the same reason, WD40 isn't a good lubricant. It will wash off any higher viscocity lubricant from the chain. The lubricating properties of the WD40 will wear off in no time. It's just best to use a high viscocity spray lube like Tri-Flo, Boe-shield, White Lightning, etc.

How do you fix a squeaky clutch pedal on a 1997 Saturn?

Since the Saturns used a hydraulic clutch system, about the only things that can squeak are the pivot points of the pedal assembly. Just use some penetrating spray lube, preferably something that will last a little longer than WD40, some prefer spray lube that includes PTFE. Just take a look under the dashboard and give the clutch pivot points a good shot of spray lube.

2004 Chevy 3500 express van with the swing out side doors The hinge pins are seizing so bad that the body flexes when you open them?

spray the heck out of the hinges with crc and gently work it in . do it every few hours gently until the crc penetrates the hinge. If that doesn't work, find someone with an air compressor, and use an air hammer with the pointed bit and knock the pin out. It will take a while, but if you get it out and grind off the rust and use some good lube when you put it back in it will last longer than using WD40 every month. Some vise-grips will be needed. It is a tough job, and tough to do without messing up your paint.
