An element consists of a single atom (or single type of atom). Oxygen and hydrogen are examples of elements.

A compound is a molecule that contains two or more different elements. Water (H2O, or two hydrogen atoms bonded to one oxygen atom) is an example of a compound.

A mixture is formed when two or more compounds or substances are mixed together, but are not chemically bonded like in a compound. For example, Hot Chocolate (chocolate powder mixed in warm water) is a mixture.
