Macromolecules are Polymers that are made of many repeating units called Monomers by condensation reactions in which water is removed.

Polymers are divided into three main types:

1) Polysaccharides: That are mainly composed of monosaccharides (hexose sugar) and are linked by glycosidic bonds.

Some Polysaccharides function as stores of potential energy (ex. Glycogen, Starch).

Some Polysaccharides have a structural role (ex. cellulose).

2) Proteins: These are straight-chain polymers of the 20 different amino acids found in all cells, joined by peptide bonds.

The sequence of the amino acids is important in the properties and finctioning of the protein.

Roles of Proteins:

- Structural (ex. in membranes, chromosomes)

- enzymes (ex. condensation enzymes)

- blood protein (ex. antibodies, haemoglobin)

3) Nucleic Acids: These are straight-chain polymers pf sugar (pentose), phosphates and organic bases.

The sequence of organic bases is imporrtant in the properties and functioning of nucleic acids.

Role of nucleic acids:

- Transmission and "reading" of hereditary information.

hope this helps out.

What is smallest to largest polymer monomer carbon atom and macromolecule?

The smallest unit is the carbon atom, followed by the monomer, which is a single repeating unit of a polymer. The macromolecule is the largest structure, made up of multiple monomers linked together to form a polymer chain.

What is a a monomer?

Monomers can be defined as relatively small and simple molecules that bond together (during a polymerization reaction) to form a macromolecule called a polymer. Thus we can say that monomers are the units responsible for the formation of a polymer. A monomer is a molecule that can be bonded to other molecules to form polymers
