Common old-fashioned light bulbs are of the incandescent type (including halogen) with a tungsten filament glowing at about 3000 degrees C emitting black-body radiation (light and heat). Tungsten is used because it has the highest melting-point of all metals.

The other type of bulb is fluorescent, of various types like tubes and CFLs
