Scientists have not been able to come to any agreement on how old Uluru / Ayers Rock is, or how it was formed.

Traditional scientific thought is inclined towards the age being 550 million years. This is contradicted by the fact that the arkose sandstone which makes up Uluru is composed of jagged, inconsistently shaped grains of many different sizes, while the feldspars are fresh and shiny. This is evidence of a fairly fast deposit of just a few years, according to flood geologists, but it does not give any further indication of when such a deposit occurred.
