A rubber aspirator sucks up liquid into the pipette.

So that all the liquid isn't immediately pulled through the filter. To wash the solid, you want the solid to interact with the liquid, to stir it, to make sure that any soluble impurities have a chance to be dissolved and removed. If you leave the aspirator on while washing, the interaction time of the solid and the washing solvent will be reduced. Add liquid, stir, and then turn the aspirator back on to remove the impurity-containing solvent.

A water aspirator works by using the flow of water to create a vacuum through the Venturi effect. As the water flows through a constricted nozzle, it speeds up, creating a low-pressure zone that creates suction, drawing air or other gases into the system to create a partial vacuum.

The word cuspidor refers to a spittoon which was basically a bucket type receptacle that people spit into. An aspirator is something that fluid fills.
The main use of the rubber aspirator is moving gases or liquids during experiments. It mainly does this through suction of the substance to be moved.

A nasal aspirator is used mainly to clear congested noses. This makes it easy on you because usually babies don't know how to "blow" into tissues. Therefore you just stick the aspirator gently into the baby's nose and squeeze and suck out any mucus.
Squeeze the bulb of the aspirator until it's nearly flat, and then insert the tip gently into the baby's nose. Then release the bulb quickly so that the suction draws out the mucus.
To effectively use a cat nasal aspirator for nasal congestion, gently insert the tip into your cat's nostril and apply gentle suction to remove excess mucus. Be sure to clean the aspirator after each use to prevent the spread of germs.
