A helix is a 'loose spiral' rather than a tightly wound spiral. Often used in vacuum tubes to amplify an electron beam.

Double Helix
The whole DNA strand is a double helix.
In the DNA. The term "double helix" refers to the structure of DNA.
Normally, DNA forms a right-handed double helix but it can also come in other forms.
The angle which the axis of the spring wire makes with the horizontal line is known as helix angle.
"Spiral" is a general term describing a circular pathway in space. Without getting into mathematical formulas to describe the different types of spirals suffice it to say that, at the high school level, a spiral, as in the case of a whirlpool, can be seen to have a decreasing diameter along the medial axis of the spiral. In contrast, the diameter of a helix, such as a DNA molecule, is uniformly constant. Wrap a wire around a cone and then remove the cone; the shape of the wire is representative of a spiral. Wrap a wire around a cylinder and then remove the cylinder; the shape of the wire is representative of a helix. Pakrutoy

Alpha helix
The plural of helix is helices.
The helix hotel was made in 1986 to represent William Helix and explorer who died in1986.
A collagen helix is less compact (because it goes into triple helices), and it is a left-handed helix. An alpha helix is more compact and hence requires more rotation of bonds to form (hence proline is not very common...has an imidazole ring). It is a right-handed helix, and goes into double helices instead.
The main difference between a right-handed alpha helix and a left-handed alpha helix in protein structures is the direction in which the helix twists. In a right-handed alpha helix, the helix twists in a clockwise direction, while in a left-handed alpha helix, the helix twists in a counterclockwise direction. This difference in twisting direction affects the overall shape and stability of the protein structure.
