The main function of plasma membrane is to regulate things in or out of the cell cytoplasm by osmosis,active diffusion,passive diffusion,endocytosis,ectocytosis etc because it acts as selectively permeable membrane.
Plasma membrane forms a barrier between the interstitial fluid and inside cell environment. It is selectively permeable. Plasma membrane has trans membrane proteins embedded in it.
