An interesting fact about the freshwater biome is that it covers less than 1% of the Earth's surface but is home to more than 40% of all fish species.
The Freshwater Aquatic Biome got its name because it refers to bodies of water with low salinity levels, such as lakes, rivers, and ponds, that contain primarily fresh water. This distinguishes it from marine biomes, which have high salinity levels due to the presence of saltwater.
Earth's major ecological communities include forests, grasslands, deserts, tundra, and aquatic ecosystems such as freshwater and marine ecosystems. Each of these communities have distinct biodiversity, climate conditions, and ecological processes.
The freshwater biome covers only 0.8% of the total water on this Earth, yet the water which makes up this biome are distributed unevenly throughout the globe. As a result the climate of these Biomes is greatly diverse depending on the region.
