Lots of scientists got a Nobel prize for their work. After all, a Nobel prize is given out EVERY YEAR, in physics, as well as in chemistry - as well as "physiology or medicine", and economics.Check the Wikipedia article on "List of Nobel laureates" for the complete list.
Wilhelm Roentgen, who discovered X-rays won the first Nobel prize for physics, first in the science category. it might be argued as these rays have obvious medical applications there may have been an overlap with Medicine and Physiology, there wasn"t. Ivan Pavlov- who studied reflexes of dogs, won the first Medicine prize If I remember correctly- He was, as the name indicates, a Russian national. Roentgen was German, again Wilhelm a good German handle. Pronounced (Rent-Genn with hard G like in (Gain). the year was MCM-l900/ Long time ago but X-rays still in use.
Peace, Literature, Chemistry, Physics, and Medicine. There is a prize for economics but it is just called the Economics Prize instead of having the name Noble in front of it's title, like the Noble Literature Prize, Noble Peace Prize, etc. Perhaps because economics is not a true category, and perhaps because it is not as prestigious as the rest. Hope that helps, and if you ever attempt to win a Noble Prize, I wish you the best of luck.
Maxwell is not a Russian scientist! It is the the brand name of an obsolete American automobile- popular with the comedian Jack Benny. Dimitri Mendeleev was the Russian scientist you seek. He died in l907. Mendeleev was a government scientist of the Imperial Bureau of Standards and as you stated he created the modern Periodic table of the elements- which is basic to the study of Chemistry. For some odd reason- maybe because he was a government scientist- he was never awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry despite being eligible as the prizes began in l900 and he lived until l907. One would think he was a Nobel candidate- with such a major contribution to chemistry- still in everyday use though new elements come up all the time!
