I you live in a state that has a refund value on cans and you are willing to do something like regular work hours collecting cans and turn them in unmelted, you might make almost $3/hr... this might not pay for your gas to collect them. But melting them would just turn them to ordinary scrap aluminum with no special value.

Now, copper scrap... there is money in that.
