The only advantage I can think of off the top of my head would be a reduction of noise and a reduction of danger. DC will not interfere with wireless devices or create that annoying hum in sound devices and is far less lethal than AC current.

Disadvantages: You will take a major loss in power when converting AC to DC, and a further hit to convert it back to AC. DC current also will not travel as far as AC current over long distances.

Another answer

  1. DC does not experience 'skin effect' that is inherent in AC (in AC, the current runs predominantly on the outside - or 'skin' - of the wire and not in the interior), meaning that for the same sized wire and same voltage, DC loses less energy per distance than AC does.
  2. DC does not experience the electromagnetic inductance losses (or cause the electromagnetic interference) that AC power does since the voltage does not change over time. These losses can be minimized in AC by minimizing the frequency, but never completely eliminated.
  3. Given the same high tension power line setup, and even disregarding skin effect, DC can be run at higher voltage due to having steady voltage instead of a peak voltage that is ~1.4 times higher than the RMS voltage, as is the case with AC. For example, 500,000VAC (RMS) actually has a peak value of over 700,000volts.

What is AC and DC electricity?

In DC power the voltage is constant, meaning that over time it is always the same number. In AC power, the voltage varies sinusoidally, meaning that over time the voltage travels smoothly from a positive "peak" to a exactly inverse negative "peak" and back again infinitely. AC power comes out of your wall sockets, but most things us DC power. Thus, many power cables have that big ugly box on them. That box converts the AC power from your wall socket in to DC power for your electronics.

How does an ac power source differ from a dc power source?

AC power sources are the adapter power sources. DC power sources are the direct power sources. DC stands for direct current, meaning it is a direct source of energy., and AC stands for alternating current, which means it is a secondary source of power.

Is Singapore's power grid AC or DC?

Singapore's power grid mainly operates on AC (alternating current) like most countries around the world. AC is preferred for long-distance power transmission as it can easily be converted to different voltage levels for distribution.

Where do you find Alternating current?

Alternating current (AC) is primarily found in residential and commercial power systems, where it is used to power electrical appliances and equipment. It is generated by power plants and transmitted over long distances through power lines. Additionally, AC is commonly used in household outlets and is the standard form of electricity in most countries around the world.

Does a computer use AC or dc power?

Both, in a way. Electronic components, including moth components inside the computer, need DC. However, since the power available in homes or offices is AC, a computer is designed to work with this. A computer has a power supply that internally converts AC to DC.

What is the main advantage of DC over AC for aircraft electrical power systems?

It doesn't have to be rectified. That's the ONLY advantage; the electrical systems in all but the smallest planes are 400Hz AC systems.

What is difference between advantage and disadvantage AC and DC power transmission line?

The main advantage of ac- it required less maintainance The main disadvantage of ac-it can not be stored the main advantage of dc -it required less amount of conductors to transmit and easily stored The main disadvantage of dc-it is more dangerous than ac at high voltage

Why did electrical generation switch over from DC power to AC power?

It was near the beginning, around 1880, when it was found that AC power gives more flexibility in the supply and allows power to be transformed up and down in voltage for transmission over large distances.

Write down the advantage of 2-wattmeter method instead of 3-wattmeter method for measuring ac power?

It's cheaper.

What are the benefits of ac on dc?

The main advantage of alternating current (AC) over direct current (DC) is safety.DC locks you onto the current AC throws you away as it alternates.AC was invented by Nikola Tesla.Another advantageis that it may be transformed to a very high voltage for transmission over great distances. By doing so the losses due to line resistance are reduced since the current, for a given power, is reduced in inverse proportion.

Can you explain the importance of AC power in electrical systems?

AC power, or alternating current power, is important in electrical systems because it allows for the efficient transmission of electricity over long distances. AC power can be easily converted to different voltage levels, making it versatile for various applications. Additionally, AC power is safer and more reliable than DC power for powering homes, businesses, and industries.

What IS AC power and DC power?

AC Power is Alternating Current whereas DC Power is Direct Current.

Why AC current is transmitted from power station instead of DC current?

This was due to the results of the War of the Currents between Edison, who supported DC and Tesla for AC power distribution. Although most electronics you find today run off DC power, the transmission of DC power over long distances is not very efficient and requires several substations between the power transmission source and where it is received. AC power after stepped up can be transmission over long distances with little energy loss. The energy loss occurs from heat generated from resistance within the transmission wire. At the introduction of Edison's system, there was no practical AC motor available. It was primary due to the introduction of the 3 phase AC motor did AC finally win over DC.

Who are the principal owners of ac Milan?

It is owned by the Italian olitician Mr Beruscloni.

Function of AC motor?

To convert ac electric power into mechanical power.

Why is AC preferred over DC in most electrical power distribution systems?

AC is preferred over DC in most electrical power distribution systems because it is easier and more cost-effective to generate, transmit, and distribute over long distances. AC can be easily converted to different voltage levels using transformers, making it more efficient for power distribution. Additionally, AC allows for the use of alternating current motors, which are more reliable and cost-effective than DC motors for industrial applications.

How does AC power work in electrical systems?

AC power, or alternating current power, works in electrical systems by constantly changing direction, flowing back and forth in a circuit. This flow of electricity is generated by power plants and transmitted through power lines to homes and businesses. AC power allows for efficient distribution of electricity over long distances and is used to power a wide range of devices and appliances.
