It is called "inertia", but we still don't really know what it is.
The gravitational force exerted by the Sun keeps all the planets in their orbits. This force balances the planets' tendency to move in a straight line and keeps them moving in elliptical orbits around the Sun.
Anything that's moving keeps moving in a straight line at constant speed, unless a force acts on it.Anything that's not moving can't start moving, unless a force acts on it.Any change of speed or direction needs a force to make it happen.

Inertia is the property of matter that resists changes in motion. The greater the mass of an object, the greater its inertia. Inertia is what keeps objects at rest and in motion unless acted upon by an external force.
The sun's gravity exerts a constant force on each planet in the direction straight toward the sun, but the law of inertia tries to keep the planet moving in a straight line. The resultant force from the vector addition of those two forces keeps the planet in its orbit.

The force that keeps a ball moving in a circle is called centripetal force. This force acts towards the center of the circle and prevents the ball from moving in a straight line.
When an object keeps moving without any external force acting upon it, it is called inertia. Inertia is a property of matter that allows objects to maintain their state of motion unless acted upon by an external force.
The force of gravity keeps the space station in orbit as well as inertia that keeps the space station moving in a straight line.
A moving object keeps moving, unless you force it to stop. It keeps moving in a straight line, unless you force it to change direction. It keeps moving at a constant speed, unless you force it to speed up or slow down. A stationary object remains stationary, unless you force it to start moving.

Centripetal force is the force that keeps an object moving in a circle. It acts inward toward the center of the circle and is necessary to counteract the tendency of the object to move in a straight line due to its inertia.

It's not that there is some force keeping the planets from falling into the sun; the sun's gravity prevents the planets from travelling in a straight line out of the solar system. If you throw a ball in a straight line then it keeps going, but if you throw a ball on a rope tied to a pole then the rope pulls the ball toward the pole and keeps the ball moving in a circle.
