All of the heavy elements except for Hydrogen were created in stars. Carbon, Nitrogen, Oxygen, and all the other biologically critical elements would not exist if solar cycles of life and death did not occur.

The whole issue of life on other planets. Old-line astronomers avoided this issue and concentrated on study of Nebulae, comets, galaxies without any concern over life-forms. newer Exobiologist- well the word definies itself. this is a separate science, and not run-of-the telescope astronomy !
