Certain fungii form a partnership with certain types of Algae and a this is known as LICHEN. Lichen are often seen in the orange or brown spots on old walls and buildings. Over a long period, the acids released by the fungal part of the Lichen causes the material to break down and return to the earth. The partnership, SYMBIOSIS, works well. THe fungus supplies the mineral and other components derived from breaking down the stone wall. Whereas, the Algae supplies the sugars derived from its ability to synthesise sunlight, carbon dioxide, and water. It does this because of the chloroplasts with which it is endowed.
