How does the shape of the ovum help to move from the ovary to the uterus?

The ovum, or egg cell, is round and relatively large, which aids in its movement from the ovary to the uterus. Its shape allows it to be efficiently captured by the fimbriae of the fallopian tube after ovulation. Additionally, the smooth surface of the ovum helps facilitate its transport through the fluid within the reproductive tract. The coordinated contractions of the fallopian tubes further assist in moving the ovum toward the uterus.
