New Orleans was almost completely destroyed. Let me make it short:costliest hurricane of all timeSquashed New Orleans as a category 3 hurricanemakes Hurricane Andrew look tiny because Katrina was only a category 3 hurricane at landfall and Andrew was a category 5 hurricane and Katrina destroyed 3 times as much in money as Andrew.New Orleans was mainly floodedKatrina was tiny compared to some hurricanes
it depends on where you live but i think so
Yes, people still live in New Orleans. The city has a population of approximately 400,000 residents and is a vibrant cultural hub with a rich history, music, and culinary scene.
No. Hurricane Katrina impacted the poor population more heavily and a greater portion of that population was black than in the middle or upper classes. Particularly hard hit was the Lower Ninth Ward of New Orleans, which had a predominantly black population. Much if that part of the city is still uninhabitable.
Our hurricane detection and warning systems are fairly effective, and i doubt a school would be open during a highly destructive hurricane any more than a snow day. A footnote about the fate of William Frantz Elementary. I saw a documentary about the valiant effort of the locals rebuilding New Orleans despite little or no outside help. (Sorry, I don't remember the name of the show.) One of the buildings featured was this very school. The outside doesn't look bad, but the flood damage inside made it unusable. The school would have been torn down if not for a lady who is leading a successful effort to restore it. Her name is Ruby Bridges Hall and this school has a special meaning for her. Fifty years ago Ruby walked into the school, with four marshals acting as her bodyguards, as she became the first black child to enroll in an all white school in the south. Norman Rockwell immortalized that moment in his famous painting "The Problem We All Live With." It seems appropriate that the little girl who made the school a landmark grew up to be the woman who would save it.
of course they did....do you live in a box or something?
I am! I live in Gulfport, MS. The direct hit was in Gulfport, not New Orleans. New Orleans just happen to have poor quality levees.
I live in New Orleans, so I can tell you that Hurricane Katrina destroyed many objects like houses, the superdome ect. Many people moved from N.O and some came back, some didn't. Also, many loved ones were killed by Hurricane Katrina
If you live in a hurricane prone area, you should have hurricane insurance. People who live in the Midwest do not carry hurricane insurance on their property.
