Tuberculosis (TB) is an infectious disease caused by bacteria whose scientific name is Mycobacterium tuberculosis. It was first isolated in 1882 by a German physician named Robert Koch who received the Nobel prize for this discovery. TB most commonly affects the lungs but also can involve almost any organ of the body. Many years ago, this disease was referred to as "consumption" because without effective treatment, these patients often would waste away. Today, of course, tuberculosis usually can be treated successfully with antibiotics.
yes
is mostly called the turberculosis skin test
The correct spelling is "tuberculosis" (a lung disease).
turberculosis
Yes, it can infect just about anywhere in the body and for that reason is often called a "great imitator".
You mean those skin tests? If you do, then a negative reaction is when there are no signs of any inflammation or redness around the injection site.
A disease, which I guess would also be a virus, except a disease isn't contagious and a virus is. Tuberculosis is passed down to you from a family member. It's genetically passed.
The truth is, no one knows. The majority of scientists believe that consumption is the same as tuberculosis, but because the term was used so long ago, the scientists have no evidence to prove what the disease was in modern day terms. the same goes for the "Black Death" and the bubonic plague
Yes Tuberculosis (TB) is a communicable disease. Tuberculosis is a bacterial disease and it usually affects the lungs. However, other parts of the body may also be affected, for example, bones, joints, lymph nodes and kidneys. Tuberculosis is spread through the air when a person who has it and has not had it treated cough or sneezes.
I don't think that you can prevent this disease so to speak, the only way would be to not get exposed to it in the first place. So if you know someone that has TB avoid contact. This is partly true, and partly false. Having been exposed to tuberculosis and having inhaled tuberculosis germs, one can prevent tuberculosis; meaning tuberculosis disease, or TB by taking preventive medicine, primarily isoniazid or INH supplemented by vitamin B6. The course of treatment is typically 6 months. As the previous person commented, if you never get exposed to TB in the first place, there would be nothing to prevent. Persons that breathe in TB germs and do not have active tuberculosis disease have latent tuberculosis infection, or LTBI. The preventive meds, or INH would be prescribed to persons with LTBI in order to prevent them from developing tuberculosis disease, or TB.
Tuberculosis occurs when the victim contracts it from another person with the disease, since it is very contagious. At the time the disease becomes embedded in the lung(s), the victim has the disease. There was no treatment for it in the early days before antibiotics were developed; you might remember that Doc Halliday, from Griffin, Georgia, was a dentist who was forced to stop his practice because of his coughing into the faces of his patients. Holliday went west, where he was a gunfighter who associated with Wyatt Earp, Bat Masterson and the Earp brothers, and other famous characters. He went west hoping to cure his TB, but never was able to. He died of TB the Hotel Glenwood, a sanatorium near the hot springs of Glenwood Springs, Colorado. He hoped to take advantage of the reputed curative power of the waters, but the sulfurous fumes from the spring may have done his lungs more harm than good. As he lay dying, Holliday allegedly asked for a drink of whiskey. Amused, he looked at his bootless feet as he died---no one ever thought that he would die in bed, with his boots off. His last words were, "Damn, this is funny." John Henry "Doc" Holliday died November 8, 1887. He was 36.
Pocahontas died at the age of twenty she died from a disease called Turberculosis which was very commen back then. She died in Europe in 1617. She died VERY young and accomplished many good things before her passing she deserves to be rememberd which she is.
