My best suggestion would be for you to make a trip to your local library and take a look at a good herbal. You will be surprised at the number of flowers you thought were "just for show" in fact have medicinal value. Just as a sample here are a few of my favourites:

Balloon flower is used as a cough remedy. Bee balm is used as a tea and in salads. Calendula (pot marigold) is used in cosmetics and to sooth cuts and damaged skin. Chamomile is used as an aid to digestion and to help sleep. Echinacea (purple coneflower) is used to boost your immune system and topically on wounds. Foxglove is the origin of digitalis, used in treating heart problems. Larkspur was once used as an insecticide, to kill body lice. Lavender is an antiseptic and is used as a sleep aid. Scullcap is used as a remedy for headaches and as a sleep aid. Sweet woodruff is used to help migraines and Yarrow is used as a liver tonic.

And this is just the tip of the iceberg...
