Amphibians have a larval stage that is fully aquatic, and many become terrestrial in adulthood, although some also remain aquatic. They do absorb O2 through the skin and are ectothermic. The adult amphibians which become terrestrials still require moist environs to protect their thin skin from drying out. They are amphibious (they have lungs and they can breath through skin)

However, some salamanders, newts, frogs and toads do not go through metamorphosis and stay aquatic, but their legs, and their similarity with other amphibians makes them amphibians.
they lay eggs on water, have a layer ofskin, have a backbone, are cold blooded, and live near water
