Ascent of xylem water is also known as the ascent of sap as sap contains minerals dissolved in water. Ascent of sap is actually the movement of sap from the roots all the way to the leaves where it can be utilized in photosynthesis. There are two prposed theories so as to exlain the ascent of sap. One is the "Root Pressure Theory" which says that root exerts a pressure on the water to push it upwards by absorbing more from the soil. But this pressure works only for a few metres. The second theory is more acceptable; "The transpiration Pull". According to this one, when water is transpired through the leaves, the evaporating water molecules pull the ones after them with the help of the adhesive and cohesive forces. This helps in the ascent of water from the roots, all the way through the xylem, to the leaves.

What takes water and minerals from the root to the shoot?

Xylem tissue by ascent of sap

Do transpiration have no effect over ascent of sap?

Transpiration creates a negative pressure that helps pull water upward in the xylem vessels, playing a major role in the ascent of sap in plants. As water evaporates from the leaf surface during transpiration, it creates tension that helps to draw water molecules up from the roots. This process, known as the cohesion-tension theory, is essential for the movement of water and nutrients throughout the plant.

What is trasported by the xylem?

Water is transported by the xylem.

What is the role of adhesion and cohesion of xylem sap?

Adhesion and cohesion are crucial for the movement of xylem sap in plants. Cohesion, the attraction between water molecules, helps maintain a continuous column of sap, preventing it from breaking during ascent. Adhesion, the attraction between water molecules and the xylem vessel walls, assists in drawing the sap upward against gravity. Together, these properties enable efficient water transport from roots to leaves, supporting vital physiological processes like photosynthesis.

Where does the xylem get water?

The xylem gets water from the roots of the plant through the process of transpiration and root pressure. Water is absorbed by the plant's roots from the soil and transported through the xylem tissues to the rest of the plant.

What brings food and water to your cells?

.food is carried by phloem and water is carried by xylem.

What are the tubes called in plants the carry water into the plant?

This is the vascular tissue xylem.

What tissue transports water through a plant?

Xylem cells are responsible for supplying water to all parts of the plant. They make up the xylem tube which transports water, but then they die. So the xylem tube which is made up of dead xylem cells is responsible for transport of water in the plant.

What does a xylem cell do?

Xylem cells carry water and nutrients from the roots to other parts of a plant.

Xylem is to water transport. Xylem is a type of plant tissue responsible for transporting water and minerals from the roots to the rest of the plant.

What is the tissue responsible for transporting water and minerals from the root to the stem and leaves?

The tissue responsible for transporting water and minerals from the root to the stem and leaves is called xylem. Xylem is a type of vascular tissue that consists of specialized cells that form vessels for conducting water and nutrients.
