The relationship between organisms is generally referred to as symbiosis. A symbiotic relationship where both organisms benefit is called mutualism (co-operation is the term used when mutualistic behaviours occurs between member of the same species).

Other types of symbiosis are parasitism (one benefits and the other is adversely affected) and commensalism (one benefits and the other is neither positively nor negatively affected)
