Order of bodies and eclipse.
Earth, moon, Sun->Solar eclipse
moon, Earth, Sun->lunar eclipse
A lunar eclipse occurs during a full moon when the Earth passes between the Sun and the Moon, casting a shadow on the Moon. In contrast, a solar eclipse occurs during a new moon when the Moon passes between the Earth and the Sun, blocking the Sun's light from reaching Earth.
a solar eclipse, which occurs when the new Moon passes directly between the Sun and the Earth
That's a difficult way of saying that the Sun, Moon and Earth line up almost exactly. So that's true.
I assume that you meant to have moon between the and is. If you did, then it is called a solar eclipse when the moon is between the earth and the sun.
A solar eclipse occurs when the Moon passes between the Sun and Earth, blocking the Sun's light and casting a shadow on Earth. A lunar eclipse happens when Earth passes between the Sun and the Moon, causing Earth's shadow to fall on the Moon.

During a new moon phase, the moon is between the sun and the earth. It usually passes not directly between the two, but above or even below. If the moon passes directly in front of the sun at this time, a solar eclipse occurs.
