Pupillary response is controlled by the autonomic nervous system.
In bright light or when looking at close objects, the parasympathetic nervous system will cause pupillary constriction by activating the sphincter pupillae muscle(s). The parasympathetic nerves that innervate the sphincter pupillae are the short ciliary nerves, which come from the ciliary ganglion in the orbit. Innervation of the ciliary ganglion is via parasympathetic pre-ganglionic fibers traveling with the occulomoter nerve from the edinger-westfall nucleus in the cranial midbrain.
In low light, when looking at distant objects, or when stress levels are high (fight or flight) the sympathetic nervous system will cause pupillary dilation by activating the iris dilator muscle(s). The sympathetic nerves that innervate these muscles come from the superior cervical ganglion.

Is the sympathetic or parasympathetic involved in pupillary response?

the sympathetic nervous system (SNS) is a very important part of the autonomic nervous system. the SNS is well known for its role in the fight-or-flight response in the body. among the effects it has are: bronchodilation, increased heart rate, increased metabolism and dilated (increased diameter) pupils. the reason why pupils become dilated during SNS activity is because dilated pupils allow more light to enter the eye and it also increases the visual field - remember this is a fight-or-flight response, our responses to perceived threats are heightened and our senses are really alert.the parasympathetic system on the other hand functions in time of rest and digestion. the PNS is therefore most active during our relaxed states.sympathetic.

What part of the PNS is voluntary?

The somatic nervous system.

An impulse reaches the CNS from the PNS via the?

An impulse reaches the central nervous system (CNS) from the peripheral nervous system (PNS) through neurons. Sensory neurons in the PNS transmit signals to interneurons in the CNS, which then relay the information to motor neurons to generate a response.

What organ system does the hypothalamus belong to?

The hypothalamus controls the autonomic functions of the peripheral nervous system (PNS). It helps maintain homeostatic functions.

Is dorsal root ganglion PNS or CNS?

Dorsal root ganglion is part of the peripheral nervous system (PNS). It is a cluster of nerve cell bodies located outside the spinal cord that carry sensory information from the peripheral tissues to the central nervous system.

What is the difference between two parts of the PNS?

The peripheral nervous system (PNS) consists of the somatic nervous system and the autonomic nervous system. The somatic nervous system controls voluntary movements and transmits sensory information, while the autonomic nervous system regulates involuntary functions like heart rate and digestion.

What PNS system controls skeletal muscles?

The somatic nervous system controls skeletal muscles. It is responsible for voluntary movements and receives input from sensory neurons to help coordinate muscle contractions.
