Myriapods have two main body regions: the head region (cephalothorax) and the trunk region (abdomen). The head region contains the mouthparts and sensory organs, while the trunk region consists of multiple segments that bear legs.
The vessel that brings blood to the heart from the trunk and pelvic region is the inferior vena cava. It is one of the main blood vessels in the body, responsible for carrying deoxygenated blood from the lower half of the body to the right atrium of the heart.
The cubital region, which refers to the area around the elbow, is actually proximal to the carpal region, which encompasses the wrist. In anatomical terms, "distal" means farther from the point of attachment or the trunk of the body, while "proximal" means closer to it. Therefore, the cubital region is closer to the shoulder than the carpal region, making it proximal, not distal.
The breasts are located in the thoracic region of the body, specifically on the anterior aspect of the chest. They are situated over the pectoral muscles, extending from the clavicle down to the diaphragm and from the sternum to the axillary line. This region is part of the larger anatomical area known as the trunk.
The appendicular region of the body includes the limbs and their respective attachments to the trunk. Specifically, it comprises the upper limbs (arms, forearms, wrists, and hands) and the lower limbs (thighs, legs, ankles, and feet). Additionally, the shoulder girdle and pelvic girdle, which connect the limbs to the axial skeleton, are also considered part of the appendicular region.
The groin is the area surrounding the crease in the skin at the junction of the upper leg with the trunk. The entire region is the pelvic region.
