The technology of looking up and remembering. Jupiter and Saturn, at least, are visible (and in fact fairly prominent) to the naked eye. After that, it's simply a matter of noticing that two particular bright stars appear to move relative to the others.

well probably because when the solar system formed, the sunwas made of gas and dust, the remaining gas and dust not used on the sun became the planets, most likely during the formation of the planets their was only enough dust to make 9 planets and a few million asteroids
Any planet past the asteroid belt, which is between Mars and Jupiter, is considered a gas giant, except for Pluto. Although Pluto is no longer classified as a planet, when it used to be classified as such, it was the only rocky planet past the asteroid belt.
The method used to discover the chemical composition of stars, called spectroscopy, is not as effective for the Moon and planets because they do not emit light like stars do. Instead, they reflect light from the Sun, which makes it more challenging to accurately determine their chemical composition through spectroscopy.
The telescope is not very modern it has been around for hundreds of years and is used to observe the stars. In modern technology Nasa and universities use them to explore space looking for planets. They are very useful.
Satellite technology is used to study planets and to watch television.
The term `gas giant` is used to describe a type of planet in itself, large planets further out from the sun that are mainly made from hydrogen and helium.

Plutonium was discovered irradiating uranium with deuterons in 1940.
The 2007 physics prize was awarded for the technology that is used to read data on hard disks (giant magnetoresistance).
