One of my favorites is to get a big bath jar and put dry ice in the bottom. Cover it (loosely) to keep air from stirring it up and let some of the dry ice evaporate. IF carbon dioxide is heavier than air, the carbon dioxide will fill the bottom of the bath, and you can float a soap bubble filled with ordinary air on the heavier carbon dioxide layer. Try it and see.

You could also construct an apparatus with candles at various heights and connect it with tubing to a carbon dioxide source (such as a compressed gas cylinder). As the carbon dioxide enters the tank with the candles, it should fill up the tank in such a way that the lowest candles are extinguished first.

How can you show the effect of pressure on the solubility of carbon dioxide gas in water?

You can show the effect of pressure on the solubility of carbon dioxide gas in water by conducting an experiment where you change the pressure on a closed system containing carbon dioxide and water. By altering the pressure and observing how the solubility of carbon dioxide changes, you can demonstrate the relationship between pressure and solubility.

What of these will show that a gas is carbon dioxide?

The gas can be identified as carbon dioxide using a limewater test, where the gas is bubbled through limewater causing it to turn cloudy. Additionally, a carbon dioxide gas sensor can detect the presence of carbon dioxide in the air. Chemical tests such as reacting the gas with sodium hydroxide can also confirm the presence of carbon dioxide.

Why was carbon dioxide named carbon dioxide?

Carbon dioxide means carbon dioxide for two major reasons. One, is that carbon dioxide is made up of the element carbon, which is how it get the carbon of it's name, and is also made up of the element oxygen, which is how it got the oxide part of it's anem. The second and final reason is to explain the di part of the name. Di means two, and since carbon dioxide is made up of one carbon atom and two oxygen atmos, to show the two oxygen atoms, di is put before the oxide to make carbon dioxide. The chemical formula for this is CO2, with the 2 being in subscript.
