Ulawun in Papua, New Guinea has been nearly constantly active for the past decade. Volanologist estimate that this single volcano is responsible for about 2% of the sulfur dioxide released into the atmosphere.
Australian and Pacific Plates. They are Convergent Boundaries. When the australian and pacific plated collide, magma forms from melted chipped off pieces and forces its way to the surface triggering a volcano. Im just researching this volcano too :) hope this hepls

YES IT IS VERY ACTIVE!!! the last eruption was this last year 2010 on feburary 14-15...for more information look up ulawun on google and go tothe link with the website called john search...the wbsite is very good
Mount Giluwe is the highest volcano in Papua New Guinea. An old shield volcano which has been inactive for thousands of years, it is 4,368 metres high.Papua New Guinea's highest active volcano is Mount Ulawun, with an elevation of 2334 m. It showed all the signs of erupting in June 2010, but it did not actually erupt. Its most significant recent eruption was in 1980.
