On the prairie, the weather can vary extremely. It can be moderate and comfortable at times. During droughts, it can get very hot you can see the steam rising. During the winter, it can snow feet tall, and go to degrees down to -30 degrees Fahrenheit. In any season, the wind can pick up and wild thunderstorms can start. After awhile, there could be a funnel cloud and then a tornado. That's why most country homes have cellars, basements, and storm shelters.

Hope that helped.
