8.8
A big quake on the ricter scale should be more than 8.2 to trigger a tsunami.
The Haiti earthquake was measued at a magnitude of seven on the ricter scale.
The 2010 Chile earthquake had a magnitude of 8.8. It was one of the strongest earthquakes ever recorded and caused widespread damage and casualties in Chile.
The Shaanxi Earthquake in 1556 is estimated to have had a magnitude of around 8 on the Richter Scale. However, it occurred before the Richter Scale was developed, so this magnitude is an estimate based on historical records.
Mount Kilauea on Hawaii is a volcano. The Richter scale is measurement of an earthquake strength. Thus you can not put Mt. Kilauea on the Richter scale - they are not the same thing! However when volcanoes erupt they do produce localearthquakes which you can measure on the Richter scale but to choose which one you want to know about you have to provide a date for the eruption event.Mt. Kilauea is (March - April 2008) currently undergoing some small explosive eruptions that have produced very smallearthquakes, some ash and allot of SO2 gas.

The size of an earthquake is measured on the Ricter scale it can also be measured on the Mercalli scale. For an example the 2008 earthquake in China was 7.8 on the Rictor scale and in was XI on the Mercalli scale
NewOrleans, (hurricane), Haiti, (earthquake),Japan (earthquake)Srilanka(tsunami), Turkey (earhquake), Chile (earthquake)
This is really an answer but we dont use the ricter scale to record earthquakes because it didn't work well.. we use the M.M.S (Moment Magnitude Scale) To record earthquakes.. ----
it was 8.8 in the magitude scale
